GRIFTON — The Grifton Board of Commissioners,
in a workshop session last Wednesday, discussed a variety of items
to put on the board’s regular agenda next Tuesday night.
The town’s Land Use Plan will be on tap for
final approval. Town Administrator Michael Peoples said the plan is
ready with no changes. He said it should be reviewed carefully by
the board. Mayor Tim Bright said the Land Use Plan does not change
zoning and is just a guide for the board to follow in the future.
Peoples said the proposed Greenway Plan is good
to have if the board applies for recreation grants in the future
because it will give the town more points to compete.
The board also discussed and will probably
appointed Peoples to the Eastern Carolina Council of Government
General membership Board.
The board will have on its agenda next Tuesday
its board retreat scheduled which is tentatively set for February
27, 2004 from 8:30 to 5 p.m.
The board discussed the possibility
construction plat for Birch Road Subdivision (HOME Project), but
there seemed to be some hesitacy about doing the project.
Commissioner Bill Smith said there is a lot of “heavy concern” in
that area about the propose building of low to moderate income
homes.
Commissioner Johnny Craft suggested doing the
Pitt Street project instead.
Water alternaives are still on the table,
Peoples told board members. He said he should have another proposal
back from Greenville Utilities and he added that there has not been
any revised costs for NRWASA.
Peoples provided an update on the Contentnea
Creek Overlook Park and Creekside Overlook Park, saying the work in
Lenoir County is nearly complete and that the project should be
finished by Shad Festival.
Peoples told the board that the Creekside
Committee will meet next Tuesday and that any information they have
will be on th regular meeting agenda.
He also said he is working on the sewer project
for the Baptist Men and is awaiting word about participation from a
nearby property owner.
