GRIFTON — Shana Diane’s Tanning & Salon
recently opened up in Grifton but don’t expect to talk business with
anyone named Shana or Diane because it’s all one name and well,
she’s only eight.
Tanning Salon owner Tammy Jennette didn’t think
twice about naming her tanning business after her eight-year-old
daughter, Shana Diane. In fact, it was on the top of her list.
“I liked her named and I just wanted to do
something for her,” Jenette said.
The business, Shana Diane’s Tanning & Salone,
opened on March 15, 2004 but celebrated it’s opening with a ribbon
cutting on Thursday, July 22.
Jennette says she has always wanted to open a
business in Grifton. Her first choice was a restaurant but after
doing research, she found it a little costly to start off opening up
such a business. However, Jennette kept her eyes on available
buildings in Grifton and when one Queen Street building became
vacant, she jumped at the opportunity.
“I wanted to open up some kind of business,”
Jennette said.
Jennette also had her eyes on Grifton as the
location because not only is it where she was born and raised, it’s
also convenient for her to accommodate her daughter to and from
school everyday
Jennette also accommodates parents who want to
come by for a quick tan but have kids they are afraid to leave
alone. The game cube should keep the kids busy for a while, Jennette
says, and should give parents a worry-free tanning session.
Before Shana Diane’s opened, the building was a
tanning salon and before that it was a hair salon, so Jennette felt
the building was perfect to continue in the salon route. However,
Jennette says she didn’t keep any of the old equipment that was
left. She ventured out and bought two new tanning beds and two new
hairstyling booths, a reason Jennette says her beds are known as
“the hottest beds around.” Jennette also repainted everything to
give the building a fresh look.
Currently, Jennette says there is only one
hairstylist available by appointment only but adds that she is
always looking for new hairstylists.
Other than tanning and hairstyling, Shana
Diane’s offers a weight loss patch as well, called Jen Fe Next Fax
Loss Patch. Jennette says she sells the patches but also distributes
them for others to sell. She also sells a full line of tanning and
hair products, which customers have said is the cheapest around.
Future plans for Shana Diane’s include a
possible nail studio as well as what Jennette says will be a ‘big
surprise’ for customers if all goes well in the next three months.
“If everything goes good in the next few
months, we’re going to have a surprise,” Jennette says.
Offering no tips as to what that surprise may
be, Jennette says it will be a big change for her business and
customers will have to wait and see.
Shana Diane’s is open Tuesday through Friday
from 10:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 10:00 a.m.
until 1:00 p.m.
