Grifton’s Ray Hardee wanted to help serve
Grifton by being a voice from his Hanrahan neighborhood so he got
involved in Grifton’s Planning Board two years ago.
Hardee, who is an ETJ member and was appointed
by the County Commissioners, said there were a lot of ETJ issues he
wanted to help with. Hardee felt his experience in planning would be
an asset to the board. Hardee is a Building Inspector for the City
of Kinston.
Hardee said he plans on staying on Grifton’s
board for as long as he can, although finding the time is sometimes
difficult. But Hardee said he tries to never miss a meeting and he
is always prepared for topics that are going to be discussed.
“I try not to miss any meetings,” Hardee said.
“I have to pick my time really.”
Hardee said he tries to set aside his weekends
to spend with his family but throughout the week, he stays on the go
with his job, his planning board work and his other job teaching at
a community college.
“They keep my busy,” Hardee said.
Hardee feels volunteering is important but one
shouldn’t step up to the plate unless they are ready for the work.
“Volunteering is good,” he said. “If you’re
going to volunteer, you need to be sure you can stick to the
volunteer work.”
Hardee added that those who don’t like the way
something is going should volunteer and help make it better. “You
can’t complain if you don’t volunteer,” Hardee said.
