Pat Whaley

Pat Whaley has been a part of Grifton’s Planning Board for years and said she enjoys witnessing and being a part of the direction the community grows.

"I just like to see the direction the community is going in," Whaley said.

Whaley said she was asked to be a member of the board and decided her experience in building would help make decisions that were best for Grifton. Whaley is the President of Whaley Contractors, a local business.

"I’m always looking at plans," Whaley said. "I like to know the direction our community is going in and trying to take into consideration what the people in the community would like."

Though the Planning Board is all Whaley has time for now, because of her job obligations, Whaley has been an important volunteer in the Grifton community.

She has had previous experience with the Grifton Service League, Grifton Jayceettes, the Grifton Chamber as well as the Shad Festival Committee.

Whaley believes volunteering is important for any community, especially one the size of Grifton, and doesn’t take her obligations to the Planning Board lightly.

"The Planning Board is very important to me," Whaley said. I try not to miss a meeting."

"It’s very rewarding, and it’s very important, especially with a small town," Whaley added. "It’s more fulfilling for the person doing it."

Whaley said she plans on continuing to be a part of the Planning Board as long as the board and citizens want her on the board.
