Grifton resident Clyde Lynn had his first
experience with Grifton’s Planning Board when he built his home.
After going through the process of getting approval, Lynn decided to
try his hand at the planning process.
Lynn feels the Planning Board is important to
the community because they are the first board the citizens come in
contact with when a request is made.
"We’re just a recommending board," Lynn said.
"But I’ve learned a whole lot."
Lynn said he enjoys interacting with citizens
and said the key to being a good board member is to simply listen.
"I think you need very reasonable people to
serve on those types of boards," Lynn said. "Listening is very
important."
Although Lynn travels a lot for his job, he
said the time needed for the board is not too overwhelming and is
something he’s willing to accommodate his schedule for.
"It’s not that big a sacrifice," Lynn said.
Lynn hopes to continue serving the board for
several more years but eventually feels he should give someone else
the opportunity to be a part of the Planning Board process.
"It’s important to give everyone a chance to
serve," Lynn said.
Lynn also used to be a Scout Master in Grifton
and said he enjoys doing anything that will help better the
community he came to specifically for its small town family
atmosphere.
"I like this community,’ Lynn said. "It’s a
good place to raise children."
