LITTLEFIELD — The Junior Marshals for the 2004
commencement exercises of Ayden-Grifton High School have been
announced.
To qualify to be a Marshal, a student must be
in the top ten percent of the junior class. The following
Ayden-Grifton students have been named Marshals.
Serving as Chief Marshal is Benjamin Glenn
Thompson. Ben has been active in various clubs and activities during
high school, including National Honor Society, Key Club, Math Team,
and Orchestra. Ben’s future plans are undecided; however, he is
interested in the science or math field. Ben resides with his
father, Glenn Thompson of Grifton.
Amy Nicole Benson is a member of National Honor
Society, FCCLA, Library Club, 180’s Bible Club, and Art Club. She
plans to pursue a career in interior design. Amy is the daughter of
Steve and Sheila Benson of Ayden.
Hunter Jesse Carnes is a member of the National
Honor Society and SASI. He plays football and baseball. This year,
he was recognized for All Pitt County First Team Offensive Line.
Hunter hopes to earn a football scholarship and attend college to
study engineering. He is the son of Tom and Kathy Carnes of Ayden.
Tammy Jo Creech is a member of the National
Honor Roll and Who’s Who Among American High School Students. She is
also a member of the Fancy Drill with Arms Team of the AGHS JROTC.
Tammy plans to enter the military after graduation and later pursue
a degree in law. Tammy is the daughter of John Creech and Debrah
Ohler of Ayden.
Catherine Leigh Dixon is an active member of
Key Club and the Math Team. She currently serves as the Vice
President of AGHS Ambassadors. Her time is spent between school,
part-time work and her church. She plans to attend UNC-Chapel Hill
and major in pharmacy. Cathy is the daughter of William and Alicia
Dixon of Grifton.
Jeffrey Garris is a member of the Key Club,
National Vocational Honor Society, and National Honor Society. He
has participated in Marching Band. After high school, Jeffrey plans
to attend East Carolina University or North Carolina State
University. Jeffrey is the son of Greg and Tammy Garris of Ayden.
Erin Marie Gathercole is an active member of
the National Honor Society, Career and Technical Honor Society and
Future Farmers of America. She has also been selected for National
Honor Roll and Who’s Who Among American High School Students. Erin
plans to attend East Carolina University after high school. She is
the daughter of David and Susan Gathercole of Ayden.
Natisha Maria Howell is a member of the
National Honor Society, Future Business Leaders of America, and Key
Club. After high school, Natisha plans to attend UNC-Greensboro or
Meredith College to major in Theatre. Natisha is the daughter of
Annie Howell and Larry Brown of Ayden.
Lindsay Anne Lassiter is a member of the Key
Club, HOSA, PTSA, National Honor Society, and Career and Technical
Honor Society. Lindsay is also a member of the Ayden-Grifton Varsity
Softball team. She also volunteers at Pitt Memorial Hospital.
After high school, Lindsay plans to attend a
4-year university and obtain a degree in nursing. She hopes to
pursue a career as a neo-natal nurse. Lindsay is the daughter of Tom
Lassiter and Patrice Worsman of Ayden.
Jennifer O’neill Pierce is active in National
Honor Society, National Vocational Honor Society, Marching Band,
FBLA, and 180’s Bible Club. She is also involved with her church
youth group. Jennifer plans to attend a four-year university after
high school. Jennifer is the daughter of Lon and Elaine Pierce of
Ayden.
Jessica Elaine Pierce is a member of the
National Honor Society, FBLA, 1 80’s Bible Club, and National
Vocational Honor Society. She currently serves as Co-Captain of the
AGHS Marching Band. Jessica is also quite involved in her church
youth group. After high school, Jessica plans to attend a four-year
university. Jessica is the daughter of Lon and Elaine Pierce of
Ayden
Brittany Elizabeth Scott is an active member of
the National Honor Society, and Key Club. She has also played
varsity softball and varsity volleyball. Brittany is undecided about
her plans after high school. Brittany is the daughter of Terry and
Elaine Scott of Ayden.
Erica Brooke Sherrod is a member of the Future
Farmers of America, Spanish Club, National Honor Society, and Career
and Technical Honor Society. She has also volunteered at the
Howell’s Center. ADer high school, Erica plans to attend college to
pursue a career in the medical field. She is the daughter of Pat and
Rusty Sherrod of Greenville.
Alicia Nicole Wade is a member of the National
Honor Society, Vocational Honor Society, and Orchestra. She
currently serves as the Chapter President and Regional Treasurer of
Future Farmers of America. Alicia is also a member of the girl’s
tennis team and the AGHS track team. After high school, Alicia plans
to attend North Carolina State University and major in textiles,
engineering, or communications. Alicia is the daughter of Gerald and
Gabriele Wade of Ayden.
Heather Renee Wade is an active member of Key
Club, Future Farmers of America, National Honor Society, Vocational
Honor Society, and Orchestra. She has been a member of the girl’s
tennis team, AGHS track team, and soccer team. After high school,
Heather plans to attend North Carolina State University to major in
Agriculture communications. She is the daughter of Gerald and
Gabriele Wade of Ayden.
Commencement ceremonies will be held at Minges
Coliseum on the campus of East Carolina University on Saturday, May
29 at 10:00 am. For more information, contact Dr. Barbara Mallory,
