Contentnea Creek
Grifton offers wonderful parks and recreational activities. Contentnea Creek provides many of these recreational activities such as fishing, kayaking, hunting, bird watching, and boating. The beautiful waterway that flows throughout Greene County, provides excellent year-round fishing, and a challenging, swift-flowing current for the canoeist. There’s plenty of fresh air, clean water, beautiful scenery, and an abundance of healthy, outdoor activities that are guaranteed to help you relax and rejuvenate. Contentnea Creek flows mostly through farmland and undeveloped land, providing 100 miles of paddling opportunities. In addition, there is a NC State Boat Landing located in Grifton on the Creek.
Parks & Walking Trails
St. David Street Park is a great place enjoy an afternoon picnic or a game of tennis!
With a picnic shelter, a playground, and tennis courts, this park is a great place to get together with friends. The one-quarter mile paved walking trail that surrounds the park grounds is an excellent place to get a workout. Mattie’s Minipark was developed on a vacant lot as a mini park by Mattie Dixon back in 1971. She was the first to suggest the need for a place for children in her area of town to play. Grifton offers a Civic Center Tennis Court Area for all of the local residents and their families and friends.
